How can I get good backlinks to my site?

I have been trying hard posting good content on my site, tweeting and facebooking, but cannot seem to increase my pagerank. How can I increase my pagerank and number of backlinks?

    It’s 8 easy ways to get backlinks, and they’ve worked really well for me in the past. The most successful way of creating backlinks is to post content that you know people are going to share, such as a toplist. These have always boosted my SEO results.
